Empire's Tuesday Night Skate
Weekly: Tue.; Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2017
Location: Grand Army Plaza, Fifth Ave at 60th St., New York
New York City's oldest group skate. The distance covered varies, depending on the route of the week, but is usually about 20 miles (30km) and often visits locales outside Manhattan in the Bronx and Brooklyn and less often Queens and New Jersey. Tends to be fast-paced and is suitable for high-intermediate to advanced skaters. Must be comfortable skating in traffic.
Skates year-round, but will be called off if it is wet, exceptionally windy, or just too cold.
Meet up at 8 p.m. at Grand Army Plaza -- behind Sherman's horse and at the entrance to Central Park -- and be ready to roll at 8:15. Finishes around 11 p.m., but depending on the route skaters may adjourn afterward to a skate-friendly establishment for music and beer, or maybe just a slice of pizza.
