The New York City Inline Skating Guide
Clubs and Leagues: Roller Derby
Yes, roller derby is back. Why are you surprised? What took it so long?
Women
For women's roller derby in the city, see the Gotham Girls Roller Derby for info about the six NYC teams (four borough teams and two travel teams). Bouts at local venues are held once or twice a month, usually at the Hunter College gym on Lexington Ave., but sometimes at the Nat Holman Gymnasium at CCNY or the Aviator Sports complex at Floyd Bennett Field.
Out on the island are the Long Island Roller Rebels. Home bouts are held at Skate Safe America in Old Bethpage, Long Island.
In Westchester is Suburbia Roller Derby. Home bouts are at the Yonkers Police Athletic League.
Across the river in Jersey are the Garden State Rollergirls. Their home bouts are held at the Inline Skating Club of America in Wallington.
These women's derby leagues are all members of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association.
Men
For men's metro area roller derby, see the New York Shock Exchange. They are affiliated with the Men's Roller Derby Association. Practices are in Brooklyn but home bouts in 2011 will be held at Skate Safe America in Old Bethpage, Long Island.
